Thursday, Oct 11th 2018 –  Last week, Valencia from ANGIN team was invited to the launch of Indonesia-Post Harvest Losses Alliance for Nutrition (I-Plan) hosted by Innovation Factory and NTUitive.

Here’s a few facts from the launch event :

  • According to a study from Dalber in 2017, Indonesia had experience fresh fish loss problems by up to 25% annually. If this food loss converted to lost nutrients, it was about 16,500 – 27,500 metric tons of fish protein is lost every year.
  • To overcome this post-harvest fresh fish problem in Indonesia, GAIN, trough this I-Plan program (Indonesia-Post Harvest Loss Alliance for Nutrition), in collaboration with Ministry of Health which also got a full support from Indonesian Ministry of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries, Innovation Factory and NTUitive will hold a national level competition program,  “Innovation Challenge”
  • This “Innovation Challenge” competition aim to find 10 finalists who have innovative technological ideas that can be adopted by any local fish suppliers to reduce Post-Harvest Loss (PHL) which generally override some critical points such as fish landing sites, transportation and distributions, market retailers, small storage system and alternative ice subtitutes.
  • The competition registration officially opened on Oct 11th 2018, with the latest submission limit by November 16th 2018.
