ANGIN team got up close and personal with the new angel on a short interview about his investment profile and his views on startups.

ANGIN: Tell us more about you and what made you join ANGIN?
Samuel: I have been managing a shopping center in Bogor whose tenants consist mostly of SMEs. From my 10 years of experience working closely with the tenants, I have a deep understanding on how to grow a small medium retail enterprise in retail business. The very reason why I join ANGIN is because I believe ANGIN has a strong network of quality startups that I can support and grow together.
ANGIN: What sector/industry are you excited about?
Samuel: I’m very interested in property and retail business. I’m also keen on technology startup focusing on consumer internet and enterprise Saas.
ANGIN: How startup can make a difference to get your attention?

Samuel: I’m interested with a startup which has these 3 characteristics:

  1. Highly focused and committed team
  2. Innovative and sustainable business model
  3. Does not work in a hyper competitive market

ANGIN: What definitely turn you off when you meet an entrepreneur?

Samuel: It’s always a deal breaker when an entrepreneur says he has more than one business to run. It shows that the entrepreneur is not 100% committed to the business he/she is building. I have found many to be like that, owning more than 2 to 3 businesses, and it’s a big turn off for me.

ANGIN: How do you see yourself working with your investee(s)?
Samuel: I feel I can contribute more values to the investee(s) by being an active advisor in the strategic level.
ANGIN: If you have one advise/magic recipe to share with entrepreneur, what would it be?

Never give up. If you fall 7 times, get up 8 times. Instead of focusing on the obstacles along the way, always set your eyes to the goals.
